The Salem Lions (4-10) played well on all courts against a good Eastern Musketeer team.  It felt good to win against the county rival, but it was extremely encouraging to see all players demonstrate good sportsmanship on the courts.  Jaelen Nice played mentally tough throughout the match and was able to win in straight sets.  Landon Suvak struggled early against Smith because he is left-handed and very consistent, but after a few adjustments he figured out how to get the upper hand.  Evan and Cody played textbook doubles strategy in the first set but struggled when Eastern started to place their shots better; fortunately they maintained their lead and won the second set.  Josiah and Gavin played their best tennis of the year, but because a few service games were broken they did not manage to win.  Coach Heldman does a wonderful job with his team and always prepares them for a battle against us.  We wish them luck as they get ready to finish their season.  The Salem Lions will have a strong schedule at the beginning of next week as they face Scottsburg and Charlestown before sectionals begin on Wednesday.  Good Luck, and Go Lions!

The Salem Lions (2-6) looked to pull out a victory with a lineup change but came up short against the Austin Eagles.  The players gave their best and tried to make the right adjustments against a formidable Austin team.  Jaelen Nice did a good job by winning without giving up a game.  Landon Suvak and Evan Shelby both fought hard and took their first sets to tiebreaks, and Suvak was able to win and carry that momentum into the second set, while Shelby barely lost the tiebreak and worked to stay in it in the second set but was not able to get a lead.  Salem will shake this one off and prepare for tomorrow, when they will host Brownstown Central.  Good Luck, and Go Lions!
